kokomemedada

komeda

minty fresh, 2003

Mood—Upbeat and poppy.

Sample: "Victory Lane"

Thoughts— Another album with a fantastic opening song. When listening stations ruled the earth, this was important... I wonder if this was considered when deciding on a tracklist, and I wonder if it matters to new albums that can be listened to at any point via websites...

Kokomemedada was most definitely picked up by me because of its vibrant album cover and "Nonsense", it's catchy opener. It's the kind of song I'd like to write, if I could just become a little less self-conscious.

This is a solidly good album. It is considered and cozy; it has a measured looseness about it, telling me that this is a band who knows what they want to be doing. There are tinges of Stereolab here and there in tracks like "Fade In Fade Out", but for me that's a good thing.

Songs are typified by lots of layers, sweet harmonies, bouncy guitar, and approachable lyrics. Most of the songs feature female vocals, but ever now and then a guy will pop up, even taking the lead in "Catcher" with a very sixties-ifyingl effect.

The album is short and sweet, 11 tracks that run 40 minutes. Really, that's not short, but because of the style of the music, it feelsshort. It delivers on all levels.

Recommended? Definitely pick this one up.
