polygram records, 1994

Mood—Irish.

Sample: "Yeat's Grave"

Thoughts— I will always remember finding a tape of The Cranberries No Need To Argue on the floor of a bus bound for some sort of church group ski trip. I wore that tape out, to the point where I came to enjoy the effect the warbling warp of the tape had on the music.

Of course, the non-warped version is best. This was an easy buy for me, because it's an excellent band with excellent songs. I will admit that I was not initially thrilled with "Zombie" as a single, but it grew on me eventually, and I think it's place in the mix is appropriate. Just a little harsher than I typically like my music.

I know, it's not even that hardcore of a song. I'm just a softee.

"Ode To My Family" is a perfect album starter, and it sets that poignant tone that The Cranberries seem to revel in. Is it their Irishness? Probably. No Need To Argue picks up right where Everbody else is doing it... left off. Unlike their later albums, they fit well together.

Favorite tracks include "The Icicle Melts", "Twenty One", "Yeat's Grave" and the final (and titular) track, "No Need To Argue." Really though, it's all good! There is something in the guitars, especially on tracks like "Disappointment", that is very 90s in feel, but this album doesn't get mired in that decade, unlike many of the albums that came out in 1994.

Recommended? Yes. You really should have this one already.
