v.m.e., 2003

Mood—Smooth, active. Groovy, but in a good way.

Sample: "Surrounding Love"

Thoughts— A neighbor who has a frame shop/art gallery always has a bag of old CDs in his studio. I've picked through it a few times, looking for treasures, and Accu is one of those unearthed gems.

Relying heavily on electronics and what feels to me like piles and piles of samples, Accu put together a simple and highly enjoyable collection of grooves perfect for driving, working, or anything that may induce an elevated heart rate.

At times the album feels derivative... like a sort of "Apollo 440 Lite", but Accu has enough of its own style to shake those random feelings.

Some of the tracks move a bit too far into dance-club territory to get a lot of play at home, but nothing on the album feels stale or tedious. Things move along at a steady clip, and each song has something unique to add to the soundscape.

Standouts, in my opinion, are "Surrounding Love", the frenetic "Jeep", and the sweetly melodic "Nobody Knows"

Recommended? Maybe. I really enjoy it, but I'm not sure if it would have jumped off the shelf at me in a store.
